WA Fresh Delivered is in the process of changing over from bags to boxes, for all remaining delivery areas.
We understand that lots of customers love the bags, but we need to evolve our packaging to provide the best balance of price, transport, hygiene and product safety.
This evolution helps us to manage our costs and pass those savings onto you, and keep up with demand from our constantly growing list of loyal customers.
Why this change is important
Product hygiene and customer safety
Why this is important: We want to do everything we can to ensure the quality of our products isn’t impacted by anything which could give you, your family, employees, or customers health concerns.
How you benefit: Ensuring the hygiene of our current reusable bags takes significant time and effort. By removing the bags from the packing process, we can better guarantee the hygiene and safety of your order, we can reinvest the time saved back into packing orders efficiently, having our drivers start their deliveries earlier, and handling more orders per driver as we expand.
Removing non-renewable resources from our operations
Why this is important: Even though our current bags are reusable, they still only have a limited lifespan, and their manufacturer relies on non-renewable resources. We also don’t receive all these bags back, increasing our costs, which impacts the pricing of our products.
How you benefit: Our new sturdy cardboard box can be reused or recycled as you see fit. Cardboard - and the trees they come from - are infinitely renewable, meaning that we have less impact on the environment from harvesting, water and energy use. Further, the renewable plantation forests used for box production play a key part in removing and storing Carbon Dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere.
What these changes will look like to you
Our new boxes are:
- more sturdy than our existing bags,
- better protect your order, and
- will have better handles by way of recyclable plastic straps, which can be used to transport the boxes.
Further, each box holds significantly more than our current recyclable bags, meaning less bags, less space, and importantly – more room for more orders, which will support our continued growth.
What is staying the same?
How orders are packed within our boxes remains exactly the same.
Our efforts to avoid using plastics wherever possible remains unchanged.
How much will these boxes with their contents weigh?
To ensure boxes can be easily moved by both yourself, and our delivery drivers, we try to ensure that net weight of each loaded box is less than 15kg.
Will these boxes keep my order fresh if I'm not home when you deliver?
We're happy these new boxes offer sufficient thermal properties to keep your order as fresh as possible, including if you're not home to take delivery.
As an extra measure, meat and deli items will still be packed inside our existing bags, the only difference being they will be inside our new boxes.
We're also working on further enhancements in the coming months, to remove the need for bags with meat and dairy, in a way that protects these products and achieves our environmental goals.
And as always - if something isn't right with your order or its quality - let us know. We're always happy to offer replacement or refund, consistent with the service we’ve always provided; and we actively use all customer feedback to improve what we do.
Do I need to return the boxes to WA Fresh Delivered?
These cardboard boxes, along with any plastic strapping, can be recycled through your local council or shire recycling service.
For more information on recycling in your area, contact your local council or shire, or see the Recycle Right website.
We kindly ask customers who receive their order at a country collection point to not bring their boxes back to the collection point. Your local collection point will be unable to accept them.
